What is Google+? Google+ is Google’s latest social media tool. What makes Google+ unique is that it considers how we work as humans, and what’s not working with the current tools we are using.
Its aim: To fix online sharing, making it less awkward and more sensitive.
What’s not working with the other platforms?
How does it work?
It’s too early to tell if Google+ will be all it’s cracked up to be, but it definitely has potential. It addresses some of the major complaints that other social media platform users have. As we use the tool ourselves, we will report back and let you know our thoughts.
Highlights of Google+
+Circles: With +Circles you have the ability to add your “friends” to different circles. You can categorize them as your best friends, acquaintances, work colleagues or family – really, you can put them in whatever category you want. When you’re ready to share info, you only share it with the circle(s) of your choice.
+Sparks: Simply add your interests and share with circles. If you’re interested in organic gardening and so is your friend, the two of you can explore the subject together.
+Hangouts: What are the two things that bother you most about online chat? One, it’s intrusive. Just because you’re online doesn’t mean you want to chat. Two, it’s awkward. You never can tell if the person you’re initiating conversation with is away from their computer or just ignoring you. +Hangouts has gotten rid of these two features and created a space where you and your friends can hang out and live chat together.
Will Google+ be all it’s cracked up to be? Only time will tell. Read more on the Google+ project.
