Social media faux pas you don’t want to make: Part I
Every once in a while I see something on Facebook or Twitter that makes me want to scream. It’s not what they’re saying, so much as how they’re saying it. While there are no rules to using social media – at least not formal ones – there is proper etiquette that should be followed. I’m devoting the next two posts to social media faux pas that I’ve seen committed online with the reasons why they don’t work. I’m sure you’ll recognize quite a few of them.
As a business owner, when you attend networking events, do you do so without your business card? One would hope not. Press kits are very similar to business cards in that they help make an introduction by providing valuable information about your company. Think of it this way; if your company doesn’t have a press kit it doesn’t have control over its information. It has, essentially, waived its ability to make access to accurate information quick and easy, making way for bad press.
Last week, I was lucky enough to attend the B2 Conference at the Delta Hotel in Guelph, hosted by local mortgage agent Rob Campbell. Keynote speakers included author of UnMarketing, Scott Stratten, and John Morgan, author of Brand Against the Machine. Stratten was responsible for covering the marketing side of things; Morgan covered branding.
